| Who is behind Shoot Candids? At a tad over 50 years old, but looking 10 years younger, Alan Skyrme - the globally well-travelled photographer - is a picture of sophistication. Normally attired in Armani suits that hang beautifully from his lean athletic torso, he is as comfortable and confident in extremes of climate as he is in his studio. Described recently as "a mix of the best of (Lord) Patrick Litchfield, Pierce Brosnan, and Sylvester Stallone" this highly sought-after image maker divides his time between his studios in Brazil and UK, and the Amazonian and Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil where he captures the spirit of the jungle on film ... in addition to travelling to other continents. Dismissing stories that he travels merely to collect airmiles and to enjoy airline food, Alan has admitted that his travels could be measured in the millions of miles. Since his birth in Libya in the last Millennium, he has lived in 15 countries on four continents, and has visited about 55 countries on 5 continents in his lifetime. Now based in the south of Brazil he often flits back to Europe to see his children in England and his mother in Italy, as well as to supply his ex-wife with duty free cigarettes, and his partner in Brazil with duty free perfumes. His stock library of images extends to many thousands. His stock of wine is zero as he tends to drink it as fast as he buys it. Underneath the dynamic yet suave exterior is a dedicated father of 5 girls from his first marriage (and an inherited 3 boys from his partner). But occasionally the real, frazzled self shows through - at which point he locks himself in his studio and immerses himself in his most creative photographic work. "My life is interesting" he says with considerable British understatement. Alan's most famous quote: "Mick Jagger's older than me but I've got more kids!" |
