A little bit about Alan Skyrme
Who is behind Shoot Candids?

New Year resolution .... Get a life! Actually not so much "get a life", but move onwards and upwards where Destiny has
marked out the steps I will take.
Divorces and separations are not nice things. Been there, done them both. The t-shirts are not worth collecting! No, good
hard work, a healthy body and healthy mind are more important. Apart from 6 months of at least a bottle of red wine a day
(and its when you do this that you appreciate the value of spending a bit extra on fine wine) I decided that Focus was a
good idea. My personal trainer thinks I am great ... I have shed 15 kgs of flab and re-built the athletic figure that men half
my age can only dream of. Not sure when the flab crawled out of the ether and onto my torso but looking in the mirror
now, as I do as often as I can, I am my happy healthy confident self. Well, I know that my next birthday present to myself is
going to involve a visit to Sr Georgio Armani´s little shop.

So, who am I  ... still more than a tad over 50 (and always will be!) and irreversibly born in the last millennium, I am me -
Alan Stanley Skyrme. And despite the strong Celtic names I feel more
Italian (Dad was English, Mum was Italian, though
now insists she is British - so don´t mess with her on the subject). Certainly my food and fashion preferences are Italian.

I travel a lot.  Described often as "a mix of the best of (Lord) Patrick Litchfield, Pierce Brosnan, and Sylvester Stallone" this
highly sought-after image maker divides his time between his studios in Brazil and UK, and the Amazonian and Atlantic
Rainforest of Brazil where he captures the spirit of the jungle on film ...
in addition to travelling to other continents.

Dismissing stories that I travel merely to collect airmiles and to enjoy airline food, I readily admit that my travels could be
measured in the millions of miles. Since my birth in Libya eons ago, I have lived in 15 countries on four continents, and
have visited about 55 countries on 5 continents. Now based in the south of Brazil I often flit back to Europe to see my
children in England and my mother in Italy, as well as to supply my ex-wife with duty free gifts, and my now ex-partner in
Brazil with duty free perfumes (repeat and emphasise big generous heart!). My stock library of images extends to many
thousands. My stock of wine is zero as I have become accustomed to drink it as fast as I buy it ... but the quality is soooo
much better nowadays! And that applies to me too!
Alan Skyrme's photographic equipment
Exclusively Nikon!
I need to feel confident that wherever I am, in the jungle, in the street, or in the studio, that my image capturing equipment will not
let me down. I bought my first Nikon, an F2 Photomic, in 1972 and used it extensively in the deserts of Oman and the Emirates.
Unfortunately I dropped it in the Gulf of Oman in 1978. Not deep sea-proof!     Not clever!!
As a replacement I bought an F2AS that I still use, and since then I have added the F5, F6, D1X, D200 and D2X  to my stable ... plus
a multitude of Nikon lenses, flashes and other accessories - all of which gets used and abused.
Completing (but by no means concluding) the suite of Nikon digital imaging equipment is the top of the range SuperCoolscan LS9000
that ensures 35mm and medium format films are converted to high quality digital format.

I have taken a decision to continue to invest in film cameras and thus bought the Nikon F6 on one of my regular  visits to Gray's of Westminster ....
a shop that I cannot recommend enough.
If you want the kind of service of which legends are made ...
visit
Gray's of Westminster!!!
My equipment has withstood some heavy beating in extreme location and weather conditions. Sturdy stuff! Just what I need to ensure I keep control
of my image capturing knowing that the reliability of my equipment is not ever in doubt.   Nikon IS reliable.
