Continental Drift - January, 2010

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Alan Skyrme Photography wishes all its clients a happy and prosperous year in 2010.

The New Year sees the launch of a new site that has been created to support our focus on tropical fruit images. Shoot Froot (www.shootfroot.com) currently has taken over the tropical fruit images hitherto residing on the Shoot Açai site and will be expanded during the course of the year.

As mentioned in our December edition, our modest new premises in Rio Grande do Norte now incorporate a small gallery area where we hope to sell our Fine Art prints to passing tourist traffic. The studio will be expanding its range of services (currently fruit, food and product packshots) to include social portraiture and commercial graphics.

Since our last edition of Continental Drift:

Three images and a calendar are available for sale with 100% of our proceeds going direct to the school. Visit www.alanskyrme.com for more details

Continental Drift - June, 2009

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Owing to changes made by our web host we have been obliged to change the style and format of our Continental Drift Newsletter. While we hope that this will offer scope for improvements it is expected that we will need a short period in which to experiment. In the meantime we apologise for any inconvenience.

Our last Newsletter was published in March, so we have a fair amount of news to deliver in this edition.

ASP Relocation

After several delays Alan Skyrme Photography has at last moved its studio facilities from Curitiba, in the southern Brazilian state of Parana, to Natal in the northeast state of Rio Grande do Norte. The studio is smaller but suited to maintain our focus on product and tropical fruit photography, and the general location ( near the top end of Brazil’s Atlantic Rainforest ) will offer new opportunities for Nature, Landscape and Fine Art photography.

In due course we hope to expand our studio facilities to build our capacity, name and reputation in this region.

Work since our last Newsletter

As we have been obliged to archive our previous Continental Drift Newsletters we have reproduced the more recent ones on this new site so as to ensure picture editors / buyers and our existing clients can refer back to our earlier work with ease. Older Newsletters (going back to 2003) have been deleted as they are no longer relevant.

In the period MAR-JUN09 we travelled from Curitiba to the Northeast states of Sergipe, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraiba and Natal, and to the Northern state of Para, capturing landscape, travel, food, fruit and nature images for our stock libraries and for commercial clients.

At the end of May Alan Skyrme drove almost 4,000 kilometers from Curitiba to Natal - a journey that was planned to take 6 days but was completed in just four. Details of the journey will be published on the Shoot Stories site in the next couple of weeks.

ASP Sites

Alan Skyrme Photography owns over 20 web sites but only half a dozen of these are active.

Changes to these site normally appear in this Newsletter but as we have been quite busy (moves, travel, commercial photography, PC failures, web-hosting changes etc) we will revise this edition of Continental Drift over the next few days.

Alan Skyrme Gallery
Images of Atlantic Rainforest and of Natal have been added since the last newsletter (Recente Additions)
Images of Paris have been transferred from the Recent Additions section to Not For Sale

Shoot Acai
We have added more Tropical Fruit images to the site. More fruit images will be added in August.

Continental Drift - March, 2009

(Originally published in MAR09 - Transferred from archived blog pages from previous host system)

March is a busy month at Alan Skyrme Photography. Apart from ongoing commercial work we are attempting to relocate our studio by the end of the month (more on this subject later). Realistically this will not happen until April, but boxes are stacked and organised. We anticipate being “offline” for about three days but have scheduled our agenda around that time so no-one will suffer any inconvenience.

This month has seen some additional Nature images added to our stock. Principally Atlantic Rainforest images. Next week will see additional images of the city of Curitiba (our current base) before we return again to the North East and North of Brazil to capture more Travel, Food and Tropical Fruit images.

New in March at Shoot Stock (Images of the Atlantic Rainforest near Curitiba)

The “New” section provides just a small sample of the images captured.

This month also saw the launch of a new Alan Skyrme Photography website: Shoot Açaí which has been designed to show samples of our popular açaí, cupuaçu and tropical fruit images. Although we will have up to 500 images on this site ( www.shootacai.com ) there will by plenty more images available to view via Shoot Stock - our principal stock site.

Alan Skyrme Photography wishes all its clients a happy and prosperous 2009.

Our “Continental Drift” newsletter was a little bit quiet in the last few months of 2008.

In September we were in the north of Brazil capturing more tropical fruit, travel and nature images.

In October we were working in our studio in the south of Brazil before travelling to Paris at the end of the month.

In November we were in Paris, UK, Veneto, Sicily and Cyprus capturing a broad range of commissioned and stock photos.

In December we were in UK and Cyprus doing more of the same.

Now the New Year has been seen in we continue to capture images in Cyprus but will be returning to the south of Brazil towards the end of the month.

Projects in the first quarter of 2009 include the capture of nature, travel and food images in the south and north of Brazil, capturing the same on video (we have begun to build a library of video footage) and, at some point to be determined, a return to Cyprus.

Contact us for more specific details, or to commission still or video images.

Continental Drift - September, 2008

(Originally published in SEP08 - Transferred from archived blog pages from previous host system)

September has been a busy month both in the Brazil studio and up in the Amazon region where we have added to to our significant stock of açaí images.

Alan Skyrme Photography has thousands of images of açaí in its collection - the palm trees, plantations, the fruit, the harvest, transport, processing and eating! We believe we have the biggest collection of images of this fruit in the market.

We also added to our stock of other in-season tropical fruits. Again, we believe that our collection of exotic and tropical fruits - as well as fruit in general - is one of the most comprehensive. Fruits from Brazil, Asia and Africa are included in our stock - including cupuaçu, murici, buruti, acerola, pitanga, cacau, brazil nuts, dragon fruit among others.

ASP can shoot fruit images to order (as long as they are in season!)
